Entering uk std telephone numbers in my contact list

When I enter uk std tel numbers in my new iPhone xs contact list e.g. 01452 528358 the numbers are rearranged into 01 452 52 83 58 and when I go to ring this number it never works and indicates that the number is engaged.

If I enter the same number as +44 1452 528358 it works.

Is it necessary on a new iPhone to have to enter all of my telephone numbers with the +44 prefix?

This is currently the only way I can make it work.

Any help would be really appreciated please.

Thanks in advance,

Robbiepep

I’ve always understood the number formats (as displayed in Contacts and other apps) is dictated by your “Region” setting - Settings/General/Language & Region.

This discussion talks about the setting sometimes getting stuck and switching to another then back again can resolve, might be worth a go if you are already set to UK.

Contacts displays wrong phone number format

I‘ve read that when you change from Region to Region and then enter Contacts you might have to do similar between affected contacts (ie switch from one to another then back again) before they finally adjust.

It all seem a bit hit and miss but I believe the theory is to “kick” things into working properly when an upgrade messes them up.

Finally this is an Apple link, and although it’s regarding iCloud the second paragraph talks about device apps iCloud: Change the country format for iCloud Contacts

Hope some of the above helps.

Thank you for the information. Late last night whilst still trying to solve this issue on my iPhone Xs max, it suddenly resolved itself.

I am now able to enter normal uk std numbers and also add the +44. Both now work.

I have no idea how this was resolved but in my efforts I may have clicked the region setting which was already correctly on uk. I certainly did not select another region though.

Ah well! It is working ok now. Once again many thanks for your help.
