Incompatibility between Mac OS High Sierra and iTunes 12.01 on iPod Touch 6th gen.

Hello everybody.

Since I've updated my iMac (late 2012) to the latest version of High Sierra (10.13.6) with iTunes 12.8.0.150, my iPod Touch 6th gen. doesn’t show up in the Mac iTunes screen anymore, ie they don’t communicate one with the other.

The iPod just doesn’t appear on the iTunes screen even if it is visible on System Report/Information.

iPod works fine on my son’s MacBook Air with Mojave and on a different Mac with Sierra (NOT High Sierra).

It works fine on Windows 10 PC as well.

Cables are original and OK, USB ports as well.

Different, old, iPods work fine.

Went to an Apple Licensed Store in my country, they noticed the problem but had no useful answer, just gave me a free-toll number to call Apple directly and told me to wait for the next iTunes or High Sierra update, if there will be one.

Has anybody noticed the same anomaly ?

Problem solved. You were right. Additional software was needed but reinstalling itunes on the iPod did not display any such message; appeared instead connecting another device with IOS 12 (iPhone for example, where the problem was the same but I had not noticed). Downloaded the required update both devices have been recognized by iTunes.

Thank you again.

Download the current 12.8 installer for iTunes from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.

Unlock your iOS device and connect it to USB.

Install iTunes from the .dmg that you've downloaded.

During the installation it should announce that a further software update is required.

Install that and iTunes should see your device.

Or see If your iOS 12 device isn't recognized by iTunes, you might need to upgrade macOS or iTunes - Apple Support.

Thank you for your reply.

I strictly followed your instructions and downloaded iTunes 12.8 again (even if the version 12.8.0.150 was already installed on the iMac).

During installation I did not get any “further software update is required” message and went directly to “Installation was successful !"

No way. Nothing has changed.

I also checked the suggestion from the Apple Support but that was nothing that I have not already tried.

Strange enough that I have no problems with an old iTouch with IOS 9.3.5, not to mention other, older, iPods.

I understand I wouldn’t have any trouble with Mojave ( but also with the previous, common, “Sierra”...) but the old iMac would not support it.
