iTunes not seeing iPhone

I really hope there is someone that can assist me with the problem I have.

I have a MacBook Pro running High Sierra, since I have upgraded my iPhone 8 to iOS 12 I can no longer sync or do backups to my MBP. When I connect my iPhone to my MBP and run iTunes, iTunes does not see my phone. It sees my other devices like iPod and iPad but not my iPhone.

Please HELP!!! I have no where else to turn to.

iPhone 8, iOS 12.0.1

Download the current iTunes 12.8 installer from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.

Unlock your iOS device and connect it to USB.

Install iTunes from the .dmg that you've downloaded.

During the installation it should announce that a further software update is required.

Install that and iTunes should see your devices.

Or see If your iOS 12 device isn't recognized by iTunes, you might need to upgrade macOS or iTunes - Apple Support.

If your Mac, iTunes and cable appear to be working fine for the other devices, I would then concentrate on the iPhone. Have you tried a Force Restart, if so try Reset Network Settings, and if that fails try Reset Location & Privacy, the last is Reset All Settings.

This article explains what the various resets do but I believe either the Network or Location resets might also affect connection permissions (ie via cable to a Mac).

Good day turingtest2

Thank you so much for your assistance.

I downloaded iTunes as suggested by you and installed it after which I plugged in my photos and opened up iTunes. As soon as iTunes opened a message popped up saying there was a software update available for my iPhone. I installed the update and my phone is now visible in iTunes again.

You have no idea how happy I am right now. Stress levels are at an all time low now.
Thank You!

If iTunes doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support

iTunes recognizes my iPhone SE with iOS 12.0.1 perfectly on my Windows 10 PC.

Open iTunes ( the latest version must be installed ) and connect your iPhone to a USB port.

If iTunes does not seem to recognize your iPhone, that could be due to the fact that your iPhone is needing your approval to connect. Give your approval ( Trust / Not trust, whatever ).

If iTunes is still reluctant to recognize your iPhone, disconnect your iPhone and reconnect it while iTunes is running.

Hi, thank you for your reply

I have done everything you suggested I do, but with no success. Furthermore, I do not see my phone under the USB Device Tree. As mentioned before.... This issue started right after upgrading to iOS 12. I seem to recall reading that iOS 12 was developed for Mojave and that Apple might have missed thinking about previous iOS's. I also see from the internet that I am not the only one experiencing this problem.

Any further suggestions / assistance will be appreciated.
