Remove Apps from Dock when Closed

In the new OS, Mojave, when I close an app that's used like Adobe Acrobat Reader DC it stays in the dock. I do not have Options>Keep in dock selected. How can I get the apps that get closed with Command+Q to automatically disappear from the dock? Apps have stayed in the dock, since the upgrade, and I have to select Options>Remove from dock every time I use them.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Mojave (10.14)

Uncheck System Preferences > Dock > Show recent applications in Dock.
