Whats the best way to encrypt a Mojave boot drive?

Seems that FileVault is not compatible with an APFS formatted Mojave boot drive.

What's the best solution to encrypt the drive? (preferably not 3rd party)

I just yesterday installed MacOS Mojave on a APFS(encrypted) volume using a 64GB USB Install drive. I had Boot Camp Windows 10 installed on the previous MacOS HighSierra 10.13.4. I reformatted the 500GB SSD drive but I did not know what I was doing. I had two volumes, one APFS(encrypted) and the other not encrypted—both showing 500GB. The MacOS Mojave installer installed Mojave on the APFS(encrypted) volume. I then installed from the Time Machine Backup which when quickly for 240GB used space. The System Preferences / FileVault has the option "Turn Off FileVault".

When I boot up the screen goes almost immediately the my User login and needs a password and then the system loads.

Mojave is compatible with FileVault.

Here's the explanation of my problem:

To install Mojave on my 2010 "cheese grater" Mac Pro, I had to upgrade the GPU to one that's Metal compatible; I had chosen a Radeon RX580.

This card is recommended by Apple, yet it's not EFI flashed, therefore no boot screen appears until the driver's loaded, therefore there's no way to enter the FileVault password!

Luckily, Mojave "figured this out for me" and disabled FileVault, hence:

"FileVault cannot be used on this system and operating version"

If it hadn't, I'd be stuck with an encrypted drive and a blank screen.

Thank you Apple :-)
