External DVD drive not working post-Mojave update

Ever since I updated to Mojave, my external DVD drive no longer works. I am using a Late 2016 MBP w/ Touch Bar (4 Thunderbolt 3 ports). When I plug the DVD drive in, I can tell that it makes the disc spin, but it no longer shows up in Finder (i.e., the drive/disc never mount).

Here is what I've already tried:

1.) Double checking finder preferences to make sure external drives will show up

2.) Trying the DVD drive on another computer (PC). It works on PCs, so the drive isn't the problem.

3.) Trying different USB ports on the MacBook

The same drive always worked before Mojave. I'm wondering if Mojave reduced the power available for USB accessories.

Anyone else having this problem? Any solutions?

PS: Yes, DVDs are antiquated at this point, but I have no choice in the matter.

I have a SuperDrive pulled from an older MacBook Pro (when I replaced it with an SSD) housed in an external drive housing sold by Other World Computing. It worked great with that MacBook Pro, but wasn't working with my 2017 MBP which has 4 USB-C plugins. I was plugging in the USB-A into my adapter system, and although it would make noises like it was trying to spin up to speed, it didn't sound right and it wasn't recognized.

The drive container has two USB -A cables ganged together, one for data and one for external power (only necessary I think when the data connection doesn't carry enough power, which can happen with laptops). I tried plugging in that secondary USB connector into a small USB charger (similar to what Apple provides with an iPhone) and the drive was able to spin up and easily was recognized by the MBP.

So although some people may have problems with external drives due to OS issues, in my case it was a power issue; once I recognized this as a possibility, it was easy to resolve.

I am running 10.14.2 and there is no mention anywhere of a burn file or create burn folder on the finder drop down menu. If you go to Apple Help screens for anything having to do with "burn" you get this helpful comment: "The selected content is currently unavailable". SO Apple is clearly aware of the problem. Apple used to take their customers seriously. And I didn't have the problem with the first iteration of Mojave on my MBP 15" late 2013. Has anybody discussed this with the Genius Bar? I can't even watch a DVD. Is going back to High Sierra an option? If so, how???? This is a situation you would expect from Microsoft!!!!

My problem that my LG model BE14NU40 Blu-ray burnet doesn’t get recognized by my Mac. It won’t mount and I can’t use it for anything. When I last used the drive about 2 years ago it worked fine. Tried using it yesterday and nothing. Any ideas on how I can get my Mac to recognize and mount the drive.

I tried burning a disc, but get the message, no supported burner drive found. Thanks.

OK Apple...do you or anybody else have a "SuperDrive" that does work with a 2017 MBP? It appears to me that the problems is on your end...either with the MBP or more likely, Mojave. If you do sell a device that does work with a 2017 MBP, I will buy it because I am sick & tired of trying to shoot this problem. Apparently your SYSDIAGNOSE has a bug as does the Feedback app with which I have wasted hours trying to get to create & submit data. I'm thinking that I have purchased my last Apple product if this is how you are going to treat your customer's problems & concerns.

I'm having this problem too. I'm using the Apple external CD drive, so no other cable to try. When I attach the drive to my MacBook Air's USB port, and put a CD in the drive, the CD icon does not appear on the desktop. It does appear in Disk Utility, though. I discovered that because I was worried about the CD being permanently stuck in the drive.

I had some success right-clicking on the file I wanted to burn, then selecting "Burn to CD". That worked, and then the CD suddenly appeared on the desktop. However, when I went to burn a second CD, it appeared in the Disk Utility but the right-click menu selection had no effect.

This seems like a bug in Mojave to me, because everything was just fine until I upgraded. (The upgrade is otherwise really great, though.)

Hi Every one, I have found a solution!

If your dvd burner/drive will accept a blank dvd, do the following.

1) insert a blank dvd ( it will not show up on the desktop).

2) On the desktop highlight or click on the file/video you want to burn

3) in the top menu bar go to file and burn to disk

4) it will appear after burning on the desktop.

and a trillion dollar mobile phone company couldnt envisage this happening ?????
