“This media cannot be used”

When connecting my iPhone X running iOS 12.0.1 to my 2011 Chevy Cruze, I get a message on the cars radio reading “This media cannot be used”. I’ve read multiple forums stating the issue started after iOS 11.1, no fix was issued.

I could use the AUX port to stream my music, but then I would have to operate my phone while driving, which is not safe to do.

Ive tried updating the cars firmware, turning off the usb restrictions within the phone‘s settings, restarting the device and car while the usb is plugged in, and nothing seems to work. So the only thing I can think of, is when Apple updated to iOS 11.1, they removed compatibility.
