IOS 12.0.1 Microphone Not Working

Same here, daughters phone. Got a good deal for $200 but after the 12.3.1 update microphone is toast. Been on with Apple for an hour, they won't admit to it being their problem. Hardware issue they say. I sense another scandal on its way at the same level of batterygate 2017.

Oh ****, I was on the phone with Apple longer than that and my phone was under warranty! Problem was THEY lost track of the warranty after issuing us a new phone from a previous damage-related incident. Good thing I keep all our records on this stuff or else we would have been SOL!

After I upgraded my iPhone SE from 11.4.1 to 12.0.1, Siri no longer works, dictation only works via bluetooth or headset with mic, and front video will record but only records sound if connected to headset with mic. I find it hard to believe that this is a hardware issue with the front mic. All worked well before upgrading. I have tried a boatload of things, and chatted with Apple for 55 minutes. They recommended bringing my phone in. Anyone else have this issue? Any fixes?

I have made some progress on the phone with apple support; they’ve told me that with the installation of iOS 12 there was a hardware stress test done on the phone, to see if the hardware is capable of dealing with certain new software. In my case his has caused the microphone to first go bad and eventually fail (in space of 1 week) Apple support argues that the microphone was about to break down anyway, and the stress test accelerated this process. My phone was 3 weeks out of warranty when this all happened. I am now in the process of getting this repaired by apple, but will have to see if they are willing to do so at no costs.

Other issues since upgrade:

Loudspeakers also affected, but only during a phone call or FT/WhatsApp call and not working in GarageBand strange enough.. the speakers are working for music and other sounds.

Health app is not recording correctly

Battery discharges abnormally quick

Flaky Bluetooth conne

I have this same issue where my mic stopped working completely for my iPhone 7 coincidentally after the ios 12 update. I tried all the troubleshooting tips that I could find online but was not successful. I also set up an Apple genius appointment and they were very unhelpful as well since they told me the same thing as they told others, that it could not be fixed, it's a hardware issue and it cannot be replaced because there was no warranty. After reviewing many different websites which confirm the same issues that many other Apple users are experiencing and from even reviewing the thread below, here is what I really think is going on:

1) it's either an ios 12 software bug issue

2)or it was an iPhone 7 mic defect issue to begin with which is what is causing it to be a 'hardware' issue (THIS IS THE ONLY REASONABLE EXPLANATION SINCE LIKE MANY OF US, OUR PHONES WERE COMPLETELY FINE UNTIL THE UPDATE HAPPENED)

3)regardless of what the real issue is, it's not fixable, Apple already knows that and because of the reasons #1 and #2, Apple doesn't want to admit that it's their fault knowing that it will lead to them losing more money having to do a iphone 7 recall just like with the battery replacement issue that happened before too

4)if not the above, then the only other thing to assume is that this might be Apple's way of saying 'this is what you get when you don't upgrade to the Apple Protection plan when you buy a new iPhone' and 'you have an old iPhone so it's time to upgrade so we can make more money off you'

5)I really hope #4 is not the reason for all of this since I've been a dedicated iPhone fan from day 1 but it's really strange that Apple had the nerve to accuse this of being a hardware issue, meaning it was our fault for the mic not working when it clearly wasn't our fault. How could there be so many customers that have this issue where there was phone was working normally up until the ios12 update? it's not like we had a choice to ignore doing the ios 12 update due to the numerous popups we get advising that we need to update and if we don't, our iPhone won't function properly moving forward.

6)I seriously don't get why Apple won't admit this is their fault but either way, I think if everyone else is having this issue, they should comment, share or post on this thread too so Apple can see how many others are being wrongfully affected by this and also, this needs to be further escalated to the management team of Apple Support. It isn't fair that Apple's current status on this is that it's the customer's fault for being a hardware issue and that not all of us are entitled to a free repair or replacement. The more customers that voice their opinion with this, then the more Apple will eventually listen.. hopefully...

I have the same problem.

I just went to the Apple Store Market Saint-Germain, I'm told that the problem is known on Iphone 7 and that I must change my Iphone. So far so good, however, it is announced that as my warranty is expired I will have to pay € 339 to have a new Iphone.

It should be noted that no thorough diagnosis of the Iphone has been made by the "specialist", simply a visual observation of the problem.

I have not validated this solution since I am not responsible for this problem, Apple does not guarantee the backward compatibility of its versions on the old models of Iphone, it is not the consumer to suffer from them. consequences.

Same here, iPhone 7 is definitely not detecting the built-in microphone. Works ok on AirPods. Seems to be a problem with 12.0.1. Below is a test using Voice Recorder...

After trying to completely reset my phone back to factor settings using 12.1.2, the phone worked few calls and it went back to not working again.

Same issue: Booting the phone takes forever, Audio recording does not recognize any audio device, Siri does not work ..... the phone is about 2 years old. This is a real mess. I am from Germany....

Did you fix the probleman? I'm having the same issue after the update...

Shame too was actually shopping around for a mac book pro, but after this i don't think i will.
