IOS 12.0.1 Microphone Not Working

I updated and now my microphone does not work. I cannot hear anyone when they calls, cannot use Siri and cannot use talk to text.

If I reset network settings it all works for a litle while, then stops again. I have an Iphone 7 Plus.

I have have had a conversation with a "level 2" support person for 10 days, all was going into the right direction; he admitted that iOS12 does a "stress test" on the hardware to see if it is fit for future purpose and that this stress test "can occasionally break the microphone module" but that it was due to fail anyway if that happened.

In my case it was not only the mic playing up though.. I have had multiple issues with the health app not registering runs and walks (the gyroscopic module?) and even having troubles with iCloud; I have been unable to use iMessages since, even with the help of this support person and various resets, factory resets etc.

The most troublesome I find their conclusion that this "is not Apples fault because I have a cracked screen" and therefor the phone has had impact damage and that also could have caused the mic to give up - this is a crack of ca. 10mm at the bottom corner that has been there for 3 years and never caused any trouble. Now it is a reason to shift responsibility for a problem that is obviously bigger than my cracked screen. As if I don't know what is going on in the world and especially with the combination of the iPhone 7 (and 7+) and iOs 12.

I have had this phone under extended warranty from my provider (EE) for three years, and all this happened three (3!) weeks after my warranty ended. Thank you Apple/EE, I have been an Apple user since September 1998, when I got my first iMac and have been using Apple products in personal/family life and at my companies ever since. I literally spent well over £60k on Apple products in the last 20 years, and have never been disappointed with their customer service, up till now.

That Apple is willing to let something so futile and easy to repair (total bill to Apple for repair £100??) destroy two decades of goodwill and reputation is just utterly stupid in my view.

I will continue to stride for a fair treatment of this issue and will definitely cease to buy Apple products until I have had the customer service that has been so emblematic for this company.

This has actually been happening long before ios 12. It happened to me instantly after I upgraded to 11.3 and to hundreds of others as well. There are now multiple threads of users expressing frustration over this issue and Apple's (non) response to what is either their buggy software or crappy, badly manufactured hardware. In fact this issue first emerged back in the early spring. At first Apple was offering free replacements even to phones recently out of warranty but I guess that stopped once the scale and potential cost of the problem became apparent to them. They've stayed absolutely silent on the issue.

i have the same problem after updating to ios 12.1.2. had to send my phone to apple store and pay for the diagnostic. now waiting for the verdict. they say it is probably a hardware problem. and i suppose apple will make me pay for it. i dont think this is fair. phone was just fine before upgrade. is there a way to escalate this matter?

and what happened to your phone? how much did u have to pay for?

Me too.. For some reason when I call people I can not talk and I also can’t hear what the other person is saying. Also when I plug in headphones it doesn’t detect it. When I open up siri it just doesn’t even let me try to speak it flat out just doesn’t work. When i record videos the video will be muted. When i try to send the video to othrr phone, it was actually doesn't have sound. I have tried to reset all setting, restore iphone and power off for 30secs. It all came back normal.. but just for a while. Now it started again. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Same problem with 7. No mic, no sounds in calls, no FT, no headphones. But sound works in safari and youtube.

I think that there is a lot of people that will never again buy iPhone after this. I was Apple fun.. I have old iPhone 2G - it still works on it’s old IOS without problems! But this projects were Steve Jobs projects, also 5s was last good iPhone.

Good luck people, i am going to find some nice android phone after 8 years of using iPhones :-/

This same thing happened to me in July. I called Apple, did a number of things to try to fix it with people over the phone (my husbands since the whole problem is I can’t make phone calls). Drove an hour to the nearest Apple Store and was told that it was a known problem, it would cost $300 to replace the phone with another 7 and they were replacing for free five weeks earlier. My phone was at that point about 7 weeks out of warranty. This just made me angry. I don’t want to buy a new $800 phone every year, that’s ridiculous and wasteful. I have still not bought enough another iPhone, I use Bluetooth headphones and am still not ready to fork over nearly a grand for something the company won’t stand behind. Apple used to be so reliable! I still have my iPad I bought several years ago, it works great! My MacBook will last forever as well. **** if it weren’t for their purposeful iutdating through iOS (a whole other issue...) my first iPhone still works! So upset by this still and wish they’d stand by their products better as they did in the past. I am not buying a new iPhone anytime soon.
