IOS 12.0.1 Microphone Not Working

I updated and now my microphone does not work. I cannot hear anyone when they calls, cannot use Siri and cannot use talk to text.

If I reset network settings it all works for a litle while, then stops again. I have an Iphone 7 Plus.

I have this same issue where my mic stopped working completely for my iPhone 7 coincidentally after the ios 12 update. I tried all the troubleshooting tips that I could find online but was not successful. I also set up an Apple genius appointment and they were very unhelpful as well since they told me the same thing as they told others, that it could not be fixed, it's a hardware issue and it cannot be replaced because there was no warranty. After reviewing many different websites which confirm the same issues that many other Apple users are experiencing and from even reviewing the thread below, here is what I really think is going on:

1) it's either an ios 12 software bug issue

2)or it was an iPhone 7 mic defect issue to begin with which is what is causing it to be a 'hardware' issue (THIS IS THE ONLY REASONABLE EXPLANATION SINCE LIKE MANY OF US, OUR PHONES WERE COMPLETELY FINE UNTIL THE UPDATE HAPPENED)

3)regardless of what the real issue is, it's not fixable, Apple already knows that and because of the reasons #1 and #2, Apple doesn't want to admit that it's their fault knowing that it will lead to them losing more money having to do a iphone 7 recall just like with the battery replacement issue that happened before too

4)if not the above, then the only other thing to assume is that this might be Apple's way of saying 'this is what you get when you don't upgrade to the Apple Protection plan when you buy a new iPhone' and 'you have an old iPhone so it's time to upgrade so we can make more money off you'

5)I really hope #4 is not the reason for all of this since I've been a dedicated iPhone fan from day 1 but it's really strange that Apple had the nerve to accuse this of being a hardware issue, meaning it was our fault for the mic not working when it clearly wasn't our fault. How could there be so many customers that have this issue where there was phone was working normally up until the ios12 update? it's not like we had a choice to ignore doing the ios 12 update due to the numerous popups we get advising that we need to update and if we don't, our iPhone won't function properly moving forward.

6)I seriously don't get why Apple won't admit this is their fault but either way, I think if everyone else is having this issue, they should comment, share or post on this thread too so Apple can see how many others are being wrongfully affected by this and also, this needs to be further escalated to the management team of Apple Support. It isn't fair that Apple's current status on this is that it's the customer's fault for being a hardware issue and that not all of us are entitled to a free repair or replacement. The more customers that voice their opinion with this, then the more Apple will eventually listen.. hopefully...

Same issue here,

iPhone 7 - updated to ios 12 and camera wouldn't work.

Then updated to ios 12.1 - camera started working but microphone wouldn't work, couldn't take calls/put phone on speaker, and plugged in headphones won't work, Bluetooth headphones work with calls and everything.

Spoke to an apple help person online - they advised to reinstall my phone with icloud, bought extra storage and still, I reinstalled and the problem was kind of fixed, phone call worked, then later on it was glitchy and the next time I tried to call after an hour of fixing it, it went back to the issue, I'm 100% sure it is the update because it was perfect before then. I've since tried everything, Resetting the settings, network, and the whole phone.

Really frustrating, cannot talk to anyone on the phone, or do videos. - Hopefully next update fixes issues.

I was told that I needed to buy a new phone as well because of this problem with iOS 12.0.1 causing the mic to stop working on my iPhone 7 Plus. They did give me some credit for my iPhone 7 Plus, but not nearly enough to cover the cost of a new phone. I still don’t think it is fair as the genius that helped me even stated that this problem is only happening to the 7 and 7 Plus phones and he also admitted that he does NOT agree on Apples claim. He agreed with me to go with an 8 Plus as this could happen again if I was to buy another 7 Plus. He also shared with me when iOS 11 came out the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus had similar issues and Apple did fix those.... Wonder why not now????

I have the same problem.

I just went to the Apple Store Market Saint-Germain, I'm told that the problem is known on Iphone 7 and that I must change my Iphone. So far so good, however, it is announced that as my warranty is expired I will have to pay € 339 to have a new Iphone.

It should be noted that no thorough diagnosis of the Iphone has been made by the "specialist", simply a visual observation of the problem.

I have not validated this solution since I am not responsible for this problem, Apple does not guarantee the backward compatibility of its versions on the old models of Iphone, it is not the consumer to suffer from them. consequences.

I have the same issue- I went to Apple store and they said they have seen the problem before and my options are $350 to fix, buy a Bluetooth headset, or buy a new phone. They didn’t even do any tests on the phone. Trade in value for my phone was only $250.. it’s pretty ridiculous. My Apple care just ran out 1 month ago so I’m not even covered for repairs. It’s so frustrating

After I upgraded my iPhone SE from 11.4.1 to 12.0.1, Siri no longer works, dictation only works via bluetooth or headset with mic, and front video will record but only records sound if connected to headset with mic. I find it hard to believe that this is a hardware issue with the front mic. All worked well before upgrading. I have tried a boatload of things, and chatted with Apple for 55 minutes. They recommended bringing my phone in. Anyone else have this issue? Any fixes?
