previous audio recording onto new track

Hey, I'll try explain this as thoroughly as I can and any help would be really appreciated.

I've found that when recording a DI guitar track onto Logic Pro X, the new track is picking up all the previously recorded audio. Whether it be metronome, drums track or other guitar takes, I cant seem to record a guitar track without it picking up any other sounds I may have playing whilst recording.

I'm DI'ed into my mac and I'm using headphones. This only seems to be an issue when I record a guitar track as when i use a midi keyboard etc, it's absolutely fine. Is there a setting I've missed?

Please save me internet.

Since you're using iRig and Built-in Microphone as input, my guess is the mic is just picking up the output signal. Which would be consistent with the symptoms you describe. A potential solution would be to solo the current track (or just mute all other tracks in your project) when you're recording guitar, to avoid their output being picked up by the mic (even though you're recording it through iRig).

I'd invest in an external audio interface, if I were you. Also, please take note that when you're recording MIDI, your keyboard transmits, and Logic records, data, not sound. Software instruments then make sound, based on the MIDI data recorded. This is a very important distinction between audio and MIDI.

Hey!

The set is very simple. My guitar is plugged into an Irig 2 and then to my mac via the headphone jack. I've used this before on other devices and not experienced this problem. My headphones are bringing the signal back to me via the Irig.

Here are my device preferences. I have the input set as the in-built microphone because the only options I am given are that or 'none', for some reason. Which I'm guessing might be the problem? But Logic isn't giving me any other options. Any idea how I could fix that?

iRig 2 is not a fully fledged audio interface. It's primarily designed to work with mobile devices, and does not require installation of any drivers. That's why your only option is "Built-in Microphone" when you connect iRig directly to your Mac's built-in audio / headphone jack. macOS' CoreAudio component does not have any other audio drivers / devices to choose from.

Try the following setup:

1) Connect the iRig to your mobile device with some sort of an amp app open (as an iRig user you may download and install AmpliTube app: see instructions on p.6 here https://download.ikmultimedia.com/plugins/Manuals/iRig2/iRig_2_User_Manual.pdf )

2) Hook up iRig's amp output to your Mac using a separate audio cable

If my guess is correct, the signal sent to Logic this way, shouldn't have any mic input mixed with it.

Just gave that a try and it does seem to work. Kindof annoying as i do like to hear the other parts when I'm recording. No chance you've got any ideas as to why I'm unable to change the input device to anything other than the in-built mic? Is there a way I could make the Irig a visible setting to try and get ride of the problem I'm having?

Thanks btw!!
