iCloud for Windows won't install on Windows 10

I just tried installing iCloud for Windows on my Windows 10 laptop (version 1809, build 17763.55) but the iCloud for Windows setup program popped up a window that said "iCloud for Windows requires Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10 (April 2018 Update) and earlier". I was forced to close the installation process with an "Installer Error".

iCloud for Windows is a terrific product that allows (among other things) users to be able to synchronize their iCloud contacts and calendar entries with Microsoft Outlook (something I really need to have).

Does anyone either (a) know of a workaround to allow this install, or (b) when a 'fix' to iCloud for Windows will be available?

Thanks.

Fortunately, I found a workaround - although it may not work for everyone. The following method will ‘trick’ the iCloud install program into thinking that an earlier 'acceptable' release of Windows is actually installed.

  1. Open the Windows 10 Registry Editor (Win+R | regedit)
.
  2. Navigate to the registry path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

Note: For Windows 10 32-bit version, the path is HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

  3. ‘Temporarily’ modify the following 3 registry keys (record the current values first):
    1. CurrentBuild: set value to 17134
    2. CurrentBuildNumber: set value to 17134
    3. ReleaseId: set value to 1803
  4. Install iCloud (iCloudSetup.exe). When the install finishes, do not restart yet!

  5. Restore the initial values of the 3 keys (step 3 above)

  6. Restart PC and complete setup of iCloud

Hello, Vicente. You make an excellent suggestion, and I admit that I didn't think of it earlier.

Fortunately, I do have a contact within Apple support for iCloud for Windows (hopefully that person is still in that role), and I have reached out to this person to let them know of the workaround that I was able to discover. Hopefully they will take this information to create an update to the iCloud for Windows product, so that others won't have to face this problem.

Hello Kingsley,

Yes!! It is happening. My name is Vicente and I am from Sao Paulo, Brazil. I realized that back in October 7th when the October update for Windows 10 was automatically installed. On that same day my iPhone stopped syncing with Outlook 365 (Outlook 2016). And the ONLY reason I use a computer is exactly to make notes on my Calendar and Contacts and have them immediately posted to my iPhone via iCloud for Windows!!

So I first tried to log off the session and get back on. Same problem. So, I decided to reinstall iCloud for Windows and the famous message “iCloud for Windows is only available for Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10 (April 2018 Update and earlier…) and I was never able to use that again. I reported all of that to Apple Brazilian Support Department and the promised me to send that info to the appropriate department. 30 something days now….

Did you get a contact with the person at Apple? Thanks for all your help!

After two security prompts and what looks like complete installation:

"Status: Removing backup files

Popup: iCloud

There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. -OK" Then rolls any changes back.

Working, my steps:

Repair and uninstall everything Apple, bonjour, updaters etc. Right click in the start menu and uninstall iTunes from the Microsoft store.

Install iTunes by directly downloading the installer from apple.com.

iCloud setup version 7.6 worked, I can't find it to anywhere so I must have had it from a backup. 156MB not 159MB.

Support requests should be for version 7.6 something broke in 7.8. I'd try the registry edits above after installing iTunes from apple.com, if the 7.6 installer didn't work for me.

I am having a problem installing iCloud for Windows on my wife's new Windows 10 laptop.
I have checked and my Current build and Release ID are the one's described here as yet compatible.
My error message says that my Windows Installer package has the issue and is the reason for the aborted install.
Any ideas as to how to remedy this aspect?
Thank you,
