Cursor going crazy, both on trackpad and mouse

Hi,

My MacBook Pro early 2011 has shown problems with the cursor since I logged in at a wifi spot. Even when I switch the trackpad off and connect it to an external mouse, the cursor goes wild.

Potentially I think it could be a problem with the battery that requires replacement. Would the battery however also cause this issue when the trackpad is disconnected and the mouse on?

Thanks for your help.

Hey there, Angie!

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I understand that in the particular area you're using your MacBook Pro, the cursor appears a bit jumpy, whether you're using the built-in trackpad or an external mouse. I'm happy to help!

There are a number of things that could be causing your cursor to be jumpy. Based on what you've described, I would recommend using the steps outlined in If your pointer is jumpy when you use a trackpad, Magic Trackpad, or Magic Mouse - Apple Support . If you still need help after that, don't hesitate to respond back!

Cheers.

Latest update. Now that the battery has been replaced, the mouse works better without the cursor going as crazy as before, but still not working 100% well. The moment I remove the mouse, the trackpad starts going really crazy again. I have checked both with avira and another Software whether there is malware on the laptop and there are 0 warnings

Hi Chris, thanks, had already done all that.

I’m wondering if it’s the battery, since I have a MacBook Pro early 2011. The only thing I’m wondering is whether it can affect a mouse as well, after I’ve disconnected the trackpad. The thing is that the trackpad still worked, even though not well, after I’ve disconnected it.

The problem started arising when I connected to WiFi in a Café. Therefore I believed initially it may have to do with a virus. It doesn’t appear, however, to have opened nor connected to any sort of application, etc.

Hope this makes sense
