Health app on iPhone showing odd false distances

Since upgrading to iOS 12, and continuing with iOS 12.0.1, the Health app has been showing bogus distance reports of a series of short distances even when the iPhone is still (e.g. when I am asleep). The image shows what is going on.

This never happened before iOS 12. It happened the day after I upgraded, and then everything was normal for about a week, and then the problem returned.

The Health app is only pulling data from the iPhone. I don't have an Apple Watch. No other devices are reporting distance traveled.

Short of restoring the iPhone to factory settings, any other suggestions?

Hello RKNYC,

I see that you're having an issue with the Health app not recording your data correctly or adding data that never actually happened. I use the Health app too, so I understand wanting accurate readings, and I'd be happy to help.

Let's have you go through some steps that are listed below and then test to see if the issue still remains.

1. Force close the app: How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

2. Restart: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

3. Test to see if the issue remains

You can also take a look at this article to manage your data on the Health app, which also shows how you can manually manage your data too.
