Alarm won’t play music

My new iPhone C S Max alarm will not play music but plays only horrible default tones. I called Apple they had me reset the phone which was a hassle. It did nothing. I went to the Apple Store and they wanted to wipe The phone to factory settings and restore from the same material that was brought over from my old iPhone 6 on September 12 - 2018 a month ago! I declined I didn’t see the point . It would be the same thing that was put on the phone a month ago . I tried everything in the Apple thread that others had written about since 2015 or before.

Restarted

raised volume

tried both purchased songs and songs from my personal library

erased all alarms tried new songs

Nothing worked. At the Apple Store they say it’s not my phone it’s the software. I fail to understand how we could have this problem and nobody has an answer ! Help!! It it isn’t isn’t resolved in the next 48 hours I’m returning this phone regardless of whether not it’s a hardware or software issue. I’m over it ! I’ll buy an eight and see if I do better with that .

Go to Music
Go to song you have selected for your alarm
DOWNLOAD it to your phone. (It’s not downloaded if there is a cloud)
check to see if it works

had the same issue, this seemed to fix it. Sorry if information isn’t useful

This happened to me on my iphone 5s 6s plus and my X and every now and then it reoccirs. Here is the simple fix. Try it and let me know if it worked! Go to the alarm app, select the alarm you want to edit, tap edit, tap sound then select tap pick a song. Choose the song from your music collection. (Do it even if your song is already selected on the main screen ) then clck back and save. Make sure your volume is turned up. Hope that helps.

Think I may have a fix. Press and hold the track on Apple Music you want to play as an alarm sound only for a couple of seconds. It should highlight it from the other tracks. Release and it should reload but without the ‘cloud’ at the side of it. Try your alarm and it should work.

Download the song locally on to your iPhone. If the song you selected has a cloud next to it in your music library it won’t work.

Also the problem is intermittent one minute it will play the song and 10 minutes later it won’t. Moreover it doesn’t give you the snooze option .

I'm saying there could be corrupted data that is having an unexpected side effect. Back your phone up. Restore it to factory settings. Test it.

Try this - clock , alarm , edit , scroll down to sound then you should be able to add the song of your choice to play as your alarm

This worked for me. Is this a new thing from apple? It was never an issue until recently. That radar noise is the worst thing to wake up to!

It worked the first time I tried song, but every time since it plays default alarm. I bought 4 X model and same on all. Apple please fix. I went from 5s for this.

This isn’t something new.

My phone is doing the same and if you google it you’ll see this goes all the way back to 2016!!! Absolutely ridiculous of apple

Had the same issue I fixed it buy going to Settings>Sounds&Haptics> Ringtones and there should a bar for download click it and that should fix this issue

Do you actually understand that some end users may not understand what “restoring the phone to a factory state” means and think they’re actually “”RESETTING MY WHOLE PHONE”?
