I some how damaged the metal tip in my Apple Pencil?

so I’ve had my Apple Pencil and never had issues with it until now, somehow the plastic tip bent and snapped inside the tip, and this left the ring that screws to secure it on the inside. I have seen this as a common issue, so I carefully unscrewed it with a needle. Afterwards the inside looked fine I hadn’t damaged it any further, or so I thought.

Now the Pencil will connect, but it will not interact with the screen at all. It isn’t a problem with it being dead because in the settings it says it is connected and etc, so what is wrong with my Pencil? Did I unknowingly damage it?
