format

I have a 1T rugged harddrive formatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) so that my bigger files will successfully go onto my HD. When I plugged it into my Samsung tv via USB it won't allow me to play anything and when I plug it in it says "no files avaliable to play". I'm guessing it's the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format causing it to do this and I wanted to know if there is another format which will work or if there is something that I need to do so it'll sucessfully play my videos on my TV. The disk is almost full and worried about losing movies.
