Magic Touchpad 2 not scrolling smoothly

I have a new iMac and Magic Trackpad 2 and for some reason, when scrolling in any browser or application, it seems to "hang" for a second every few scrolls. I also have a macbook pro and the trackpad on that seems perfectly smooth in the same applications. Do I have a bad trackpad, or is something in my iMac causing the hiccups? How can I troubleshoot the issue?

To start, I would recommend working through the steps in the article titled If your pointer is jumpy when you use a trackpad, Magic Trackpad, or Magic Mouse . From the sound of your message, it seems that your Trackpad is hanging more than jumping, but these steps are still a really good place to start.

Another good resource to bookmark would be If your Apple wireless mouse, keyboard, or trackpad isn't working as expected as it contains some additional troubleshooting steps that you can take a look at if the steps in that first article don't do the trick.
