Your iTunes is up to date for High Sierra. If you update to Mojave your iTunes will get those updates but I don't think it's the reason you can't connect your iPhone. I'm running the High Sierra and the same version of iTunes and I can connect my iPhone.

If you want to try upgrading to Mojave, it's on the first page of the AppStore. Your iMac meets the specs.

Macjack, Thanks for trying to help. So even though my mac says "no updates are available", I overcame my fear of accessing the link on the pop up to update my Mac. It never said what the update was. It took about 6 minutes. My Mac still lists no recent updates in it 30-day update history, but after I restarted my Mac (not requested in the update), iTunes finally shows the iPhone icon link. Problem -- whatever it was -- solved. Mystery... I do note this problem started after 9/29, not long after Mojave available.

I am staying far away from Mojave for now as MacWorld on Mojave problems relates a problem of crashing of a late-2013 27-inch iMac (that's my unit!)

Best, Albert
