External DVD drive missing under Mojave

MacOS 10.14

Mac Mini (Late 2014, purchased new from Apple 2018)

La Cie Porsche Design Firewire 400 DVD+-RW drive

Connected to Mini Thunderbolt 2 port using Apple Thunderbolt-to-Firewire Connector.

About This Mac show Thunderbolt-to-Firewire Connector on a Thunderbolt 2 port.

External DVD drive does not appear in Go/Computer Finder Window.

DVD drive last tested ~1 month ago using iMac (Late 2009) running latest MacOS 10.13.

Connected to iMac Firewire 800 port using 3rd-party Firewire-800-to-400 Connector.

About This Mac showed external DVD drive. Able to mount and read random DVD.

Is the external DVD drive unusable under MacOS Mojave?

La Cie's Support website does not mention any problem or offer a new driver.

I know Apple is not responsible to provide drivers for 3rd-party hardware

but I would like to be able to read CDs and DVDs.

Any suggestions folks?

John

There is no solution. Tell Apple about your issue so they will know more than just a few are experiencing it. Use this link: https://www.apple.com/feedback/macos.html

However, you can put files in a folder to be burned and Control (right) - click on the folder and select Burn "xxxx" to Disc". The external drive must be turned on and with a blank disc in it for it to show up in the contextual menu.
