Songs won't sync to icloud in itunes

I recently installed iCloud for windows so that I could export my pictures to my computes from my iPhone. This was required because my backup got corrupted and I had to restore my phone as a "new" phone, which erased all my pictures. However, this also installed some sort of program to sync my 5500 song library to the cloud. I never asked for this. I was perfectly happy syncing my library manually with a cable. But now there are about 100 songs that apple doesn't like. I ran "file>library>update iCloud music library" several times but for some reason apple doesn't like these songs. I've restored about half manually from my mp3 saved files, but the rest are renamed files of live recordings that will be very time consuming to restore.

So I have two questions...How do I turn this off and go back to backing up my library manually? And if I do, will it restore these grayed out files?

iPhone 7, iOS 12.0.1

Hi Paul,

It sounds like you're having some trouble sending some songs to your devices using iCloud Music Library. I want to help you with managing your iTunes library in the way you want.

At some point it seems like iCloud Music Library has been enabled. Turning this off on your computer and on your iPhone, will allow you to sync the computer's iTunes library back the iPhone.

In iTunes for Windows: From the menu bar at the top of the iTunes window, choose Edit > Preferences. On the General tab, select iCloud Music Library to remove the checkmark and turn it off.

On your iPhone, you'll want to go to Settings > Music. We'll want to disable iCloud Music Library there.

After that you'll be able to follow the steps to sync the library from iTunes the way you did previously:
Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod using iTunes on your computer - Apple Support

Let me know if that solves it for you.

Hi Paul,

I want to help clear up any questions you have.

If you replaced the local versions in your iTunes library with the versions from iTunes Match, you'll need to add those back to your iTunes library before you could sync if you turn off iCloud Music Library.

Here's a little more info about iTunes Match and iCloud Music Library:
Subscribe to iTunes Match - Apple Support
Turn on iCloud Music Library - Apple Support

If iCloud Music Library isn't syncing everything over to your iPhone, it's either not been given enough time, iCloud Music Library isn't enabled on the iPhone, or you may have Low Power Mode on that could be blocking the sync operation. It doesn't really matter why that hasn't moved over though, because if you want to sync content manually you'll need to turn iCloud Music Library off.

So to clarify, by turning off iCloud Music Library, you'll still need to restore your original media copies to your PC before syncing to any devices.

I hope that helps.

Thank you Jameson, that sounds too simple :-) But before I do this, let me make sure of a few things. I was able to restore all my grayed out songs manually. Fortunately they were backed up in my external drive. The library is now all good. (BTW, it doesn't seem to sync with my phone...isn't that what its supposed to do in the cloud?)

So, if I turn off iCloud it will just automatically restore the online version to iTunes media on my computer hard drive? Form that point I'll be able to sync the phone to iTunes on the computer...right?
