How open offline maps in google Maps?

I have a somewhat silly question with offline maps in Google Maps. I can download them OK, and I get a list of the offline maps stored on my iPhone, and if I tap the name of a map then I get a small picture of the map in the upper part of the screen. But I cannot open it! If I tap it then nothing happens. There is no button or menu item to open it. Should I sweep the picture of the map in some way? Grateful for help!

iPhone 6, iOS 11.4

Hello BjornLisper,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for help with offline maps in Google Maps. I was able to find information to help you here: Download areas and navigate offline - Google Maps Help

Download a map to use offline

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app User uploaded file.
  2. Make sure you're connected to the Internet and signed in to Google Maps.
  3. Search for a place, like
    San Francisco
    .
  4. At the bottom, tap the name or address of the place User uploaded file tap More User uploaded file.
  5. Select Download offline map User uploaded file Download.

Use offline maps

After you download a map, use the Google Maps app just like you normally would. If your Internet connection is slow or absent, Google Maps will use your offline maps to give you directions.

Note: You can get driving directions offline, but not transit, bicycling, or walking directions. In your driving directions, you won't have traffic info, alternate routes, or lane guidance. You also can't modify routes like avoiding tolls or ferries.

Thanks and have a wonderful day.
