After cache clear attempting system restart...MACH Reboot

I used the app Cocktail to clear the caches of my mac mini (2012). After doing so, I restarted the computer. Now I only get the Apple logo, no progress bar. Entered verbose safe mode, and what I see is

attempting system restart...MACH Reboot

Kernel trap at 0xffffff8003249263, type 14=page fault, registers:

I may have been shy of one letter "f" in there. It then lists off the registers which I didn't include. It looks like it attempts this several time. On the second time I get

Fault CR@: 0x0000000000060, Error code 0x0000000000000, Fault CPU: 0x0, PL: 2, VF: 5

panic(cpu 8 caller 0xfffffff8002cd87bd):

and it continues like that until it quits at:

Attempting system restart...MACH Reboot

Attempting system restart...MACH Reboot

Attempting system restart...MACH Reboot

Attempting system restart...MACH Reboot

I'm at a loss.

The point in the boot up process where the Apple logo first appears is when the BootX booter is running to then load the macOS kernel environment including any number of kernel extensions. Shortly afterwards, you would normally see the Progress Bar.

Somehow, Cocktail "trashed" your system as I have only seen this type of error with Hackintosh devices, not Macs.

At this point, you may need to re-install macOS.

However, you may want to try the following, in order. Stop at any step where the issue is resolved:

  1. Reset your Mac's SMC.
