Graphics printing blocky after upgrade to Mojave

I have Mojave installed on two machines: a late 2013 iMac and a mid-2018 MacBook Pro. I have an Oki c351dn printer. When I print, any graphics come out completely blocky as if they have been printed at screen resolution or worse. Text is fine. This happens if I use the Oki driver or the Generic PS driver.

I also have an early 2015 MacBook which is still running High Sierra. If I print from this, everything is fine.

I have tried resetting the printing system and doing a factory reset on the printer.

Postscript should be Postscript, right? The OS shouldn't make a difference.

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), macOS Mojave (10.14), null

Still this prob!

Apple, please help & repair this ... PLEASE!

NO WAY to print the PDFs with preview on my OKI 531!

  • printing PDF with preview: blocky.
  • printing PDF with Safari: blocky

  • loading PDF into preview, exporting as PNG, load PNG with preview, printing on OKI 531: OK
  • printing PDF with Affinity Designer: OK

Demo: Orig and blocky

I have the same problem with my OKI ES5462w. Right now, after some various trials, this is what I do:

  • I have an openoffice document with an image in it. I can't print it right away because it's a mess, so...
  • I export the document as a PDF but...
  • I can't open it and print via Preview because it would be the same mess, so...
  • I open all my PDF with Chrome and (for mysterious reasons, don't ask me why) I can print them without any messes, but...
  • Still sometimes some PDFs I have been sent by email, and not necessarily containing images, give me the same problem (100% unreadable when printed, or printing error), so...
  • I have to save those PDF on a USB drive and print them directly on the printer.

That's no life my friends, please find a way to go back as it used to be.

Edit: oh, btw of course I tried to talk to OKI customer service but I don't know about you but here in Italy it is virtually non existent.

Had the same problem since the upgrade to Mojave with my OKI MC362. Blocky graphics when printed with word 2011 and 2016. Traced it to OKI post script driver. Tried a few combinations (MC362, MC562, MC563)from the OKI website and none worked. Uninstalling then deleting the oki files in the library/printers folder then re installing did nothing.

Finally found a solution. Uninstall the OKI driver and use the Gutenprint driver.

Install gutenprint package from

https://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-print/

  1. Add new printer from system pref / printers.
  2. Select the network oki printer
  3. In the "use" tab select other software and select the oki c8800 printer. There are a lot of other ones available i found one that was as close to the MC362 as possible.

Problem solved!

Hopefully OKI will update their driver in the near future to fix this. Anyway the gutenprint driver works perfectly.

Hi,

I have the same problem with my OKI C531dn. pictures on docs and jpeg files are blocky.

And with some document, my printer gives an error.

printing the same documents on my OKI C301dn is working fine.

I tried several things: adding a second printer, removing and reinstalling the printer. Even with downloading the

new drivers.

problem is also: for the moment, OKI doesn't mention OS X 10.14 (Mojave)

Yes I've also tried all of that. But even if the OKI driver hasn't been updated, the generic PostScript driver is provided by Apple as part of the OS so should work.

I don't really understand how it can go wrong. As long as valid PostScript is generated the printer should interpret it correctly.

Dear All

Same issue with OKI 531dn and 10.14.1

Alternative solution, working properly for me : direct printing

Method from OKI web page : From Mac OS X, PDF files can be directly printed by dragging and dropping onto Print Center.

Before you do this, ensure that your Oki printer is set as default. Alternatively, double-click the printer name in Print Center, and drag-drop the PDF files onto the printer status window.

Drag-and-Drop a PDF to the printer : it works fine for me.

I've got the same problem and it's been driving me crazy. I figured that the Adobe suite had been creating broken PDF files seeing as I open and print from Preview and Safari very often.

The Adobe Acrobat work around has helped me enormously.

Apple, please fix this ASAP. If anyone can file a Radar bug for this that will help.

I can say the 10.14.2 does not fix this issue.

An additional workaround is to Save as PS in print dialogue (only tested from Safari , but I assume issue from Msft Office can also be handled the same way).

Open in Preview (which converts) and print in Preview which OK.

Unlike Save as PDF which others have tried.

I downloaded the OKI PS Printer Driver Updater OSX10.9_010001_35445.dmg and installed it (without uninstalling anything), rebooted the system and it did not work (i.e. still had blocky graphics printing a openoffice document).

Please can you walk me through what you did to have it fixed?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: now I tried to uninstall the printer (via the uninstaller app in the driver package) then install it and then installing the updater. Still no luck

Still same to me:

Uninstalled, rebooted, deleted /Library/Printers/OKIDATA, installed old (actual) Oki Driver, installed the updater and rebooted: never stopped blocky printing.

How can I check, whether the Updater ist installed and working?
