Iphone se counting non-existent steps overnight

Since the upgrade to iOS 12, my iphone SE has started adding a regular number of random steps each hour. It happens during the day when the phone is still, and overnight, even when it is powered off. They show up in the steps data in the Apple Health app. Screenshots attached. Is there any way to calibrate the phone or fix the app? Please dont tell me I have to buy a new phone - this one is less than 2 years old...

Hello sarahfromwoodham,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that the Health app on your iPhone SE is unexpectedly showing steps. I would be happy to help point you towards a resolution.

Let's start by further isolating if the steps are appearing as a result of a third-party app or device. When you tap on the Sources tab in the Health app, do you see any apps installed that have access to update your Health data? If so, tap on the name of the app then tap Turn All Categories Off and test if the behavior persists. Repeat this step for any apps listed until you determine if the steps are caused by a specific app.

Any devices shown on this screen that have been paired to your iPhone could also be contributing to the Steps data. Here's more information about how the Health app handles data:

Let us know if there's any change after trying those steps.

Cheers!

I have exactly the same problem. The Health app shows ghost steps throughout the night with the same number of steps each hour. I have two sources that give input for steps, i.e. my apple watch and my iphone SE. The ghost steps seem not to be related to either of these sources if I llook at the individual step count data of each source. But still the steps are undeniably shown in the Health app. For me the problem is only temporarily solved if I erase all data input from my iPhone SE. I am not happy with this solution and the problem re-occurs as soon as new input data from the iphone SE is collected. Please solve this problem.
