I need help with iCloud backup

Hello everyone, I have an iPhone 6s 128 GB and recently I had a problem with my device and some apps were uninstalled, as I mentioned in this other thread [Re: How to recover deleted app data?]. I only mentioned Minecraft app, but I noticed other apps and games were uninstalled, for some reason. As more people use my iPhone, someone may have done something wrong and this happened, but I'm not sure.

So, I thought about restoring iPhone with iCloud backup, but I'm affraid this will not restore the lost apps data.

Also, I have some doubts about the iCloud backup that I would like to clarify:

1 - There's only one iPhone backup in iCloud (the latest), or can I choose the backup by date?

2 - Is there any risk of restoring iPhone using iCloud backup and losing my data (photos, videos, contacts etc.)?

3 - What happens to the data from my other apps if I restore the iPhone? For example, what happens to WhatsApp messages sent to me after the last backup, if I restore the device? They will be lost? And what about the data from other apps? What happens to them?

Sorry for the long text, but I really want to try to recover everything I lost. I thank those who can help me, I'm really desperate.

And, sorry for any mistakes in my text, English is not my official language.

Thank you

iPhone 6s, iOS 12.0.1

You might want to take a look at these in order to familiarize yourself with the iCloud backups before you do anything.

What does iCloud back up? - Apple Support

iCloud: Restore or set up iOS devices from an iCloud backup

Addressing your questions. I did not read the other thread that you referenced.

  1. I believe that there should be three iCloud backups available for your phone from which you will be able to choose.
  2. When you restore any backup, you lose data, photos, etc, that you added to the phone after the last backup was created. When you restore a backup, you restore your device to the time and date of the last backup. So in effect, you are turning back the clock on the device to the date of that backup.
  3. See my response above.
  4. You have to erase the phone on the settings in order to restore an iCloud backup.

BTW, your English is just fine. I would have never known that your native language wasn’t English from what you posted here.

The only way that I know, if this still holds true and if there are multiple backups for each device in iCloud, would be to erase the device and when you go to restore the backup, you should see a list of backups that you can choose from.

This indicates that what I am saying still applies.

iCloud: Restore or set up iOS devices from an iCloud backup

Step 5.

Proceed to “Choose backup,” then choose from a list of available backups in iCloud.

With regard to online games, I think that some of them have their own servers and the data is backed up that way and not by using iCloud. I don’t play online games anymore, so once again I am assuming. You should probably contact app support for the games to see where the data is backed up.

Any app that stores data in iCloud is always going to revert to the date ot the last backup if and when you restore that iCloud back. Like I said earlier, it’s like turning back the clock on your device when you restore a backup.

Unfortunately, I know nothing about WhatsApp or the software that you have linked in your post. From the Information that I read on the https://www.imyfone.com/ website, it appears that WhatsApp can create its own backups and if that’s the case, and if the software works as advertised, I suppose it can’t hurt to try the free version and you make the evaluation after using it.

I’m afraid that if you only saw the one backup, then there only is one backup from which you can restore.

I finally read the post that you linked in your first post here. Did you try searching for where you can find the game data?

I entered this in a Google search.

where does minecraft PE for iOS store game data?

I think that you may be out of luck at this point, but I think I asked before, did you try contacting Minecraft app support?

I don’t think that you did anything wrong. It’s hard to make a mistake if you erase the phone and then pick a backup to restore. I’m not sure why most of your Settings did not restore as they should have done.

You should be able to follow the instructions in the article to restore the iTunes backup. This explains what iCloud backs up and what iTunes backs up.

You will see that Apple Pay, Touch ID and those Settings are not included in the iCloud backup.

Thank you for your answer, Demo.

Now I'm starting to understand how iCloud backup works, since I've never used it before.

But, I still have doubts about what happens to the data from the others apps after the restore. For example, if I received fifty WhatsApp messages since the last backup, will all these messages be lost after the restore? And, what happens to the data from online games? How can an online match be undone?

I've been doing a lot of research and I found this site of softwares for iOS users. On this site I found these articles that teach how to restore selected app data from iCloud backup, using some of these softwares:

https://www.imyfone.com/backup-restore-iphone/restore-individual-app-data-from-i cloud-backup/

https://www.imyfone.com/backup-restore-iphone/restore-specific-app-from-icloud-b ackup/

https://www.imyfone.com/ios-data-recovery/restore-from-icloud-backup-without-res et/

https://www.imyfone.com/backup-restore-iphone/restore-one-app-from-icloud/

Note: the softwares are paid, but have a trial version.

I know I'm extending myself again and that I've linked a lot of urls, but as I'm still noob in all this, I need help to do nothing wrong. And I would like your opinion if it's worth trying to follow the tutorial of some of the links that I posted, or if this probably will not work.

And, thank you for the compliment about my English. 🙂

Ok, I get it...

One more thing: I know I said that would be my last question, but another doubt came to my mind. Some doubts, actually:

1 - If I do not remember exactly my ID Apple and my password, can I still restore just using the iPhone?

2 - Can I restore the device by iCloud using iTunes?

3 - Is it possible to download some iCloud backup to my PC?

1. If you do not know your Apple ID and password, you better not erase the phone. You will need them when you try to activate the device again and sign into iCloud.

You should try to recover your Apple ID before proceeding.

2. No, you cannot restore an iCloud backup using iTunes.

3. Yes, you can archive data in iCloud on your PC.

I wanted to know how many iCloud backups I had, before resetting and restoring iPhone, so I ended up downloading a bunch of softwares, but for some reason none of them worked.

Here is the list of what I downloaded:

Dr.Fone: Tips and Tricks for How to Access iCloud Backup Files- dr.fone

iOS Data Recovery: https://www.iphonetransferrecovery.com/tutorials/how-to-access-icloud-backup.htm l

AnyTrans for iOS: https://www.imobie.com/support/how-to-access-icloud-backup.htm

iMyFone D-Port: https://www.imyfone.com/ios-data-recovery/how-to-access-and-view-icloud-backup/

All the softwares showed some error message when I tried to see my list of iCloud backups, I don't know why. So I download iCloud for Windows and followed the steps in this article to see my list of iCloud backups: Locate backups of your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Apparently it worked, but it showed only ONE backup (the latest). Does this means I have only one icloud backup? If this is true, I'm screwed because it does not solve my problem since I need a backup of before October 19.

I don't understand why the apps have already been deleted, but they continue to appear when I click on Settings > [my name] > iCloud > iCloud backup. These apps, including the games Minecraft PE and Fifa Mobile that were wrongly uninstalled, still appear in the list of data to be backed up for iCloud, with their respectives sizes of information. But, how do I retrieve this data?

Oct 24, 2018 5:01 AM in response to Demo

That's it, after much research and try other ways, I finally erased the iPhone, but when I choose the option "Restore from iCloud Backup", there were only two backups available to choose: from yesterday and from the day before yesterday. I chose the oldest one, even though I knew it would not work for my problem.

And it did not work, but my fear of restoring was confirmed: almost all my settings were different; the device asked to set up a lot of things again, including the touchscreen and Apple Pay; I need to wait until all apps and media be downloaded again; the apps that were uninstalled didn't show up anymore on 'iCloud backup' and, even the WhatsApp had to be configured again with my name and phone number.

I thought it was enough to choose the backup and everything would go back to the way it was when the backup was done, as you wrote here:

Demo wrote:

Like I said earlier, it’s like turning back the clock on your device when you restore a backup.

As I'm not sure if I configured everything right as it was before, I thought about restoring iPhone using the iTunes backup I did before erasing the iPhone.

Does iTunes backup works the same way as iCloud backup? I also need to erase iPhone before restoring it using iTunes backup, or can I just follow the instructions of the article and click on "Restore Backup" without resetting? If I restore my iPhone using iTunes, will I again have to configure the touchscreen, Apple Pay, WhatsApp and other things?

As I had never restored my device before, I'm affraid I did something wrong and so I want to try restoring using iTunes now.
