How to access Wallet from lock screen on iPhone XS?

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 6S to an iPhone XS, and can't figure out how to open Wallet from the lock screen (other than asking Siri). I've tried double clicking the lock (right side) button, but it's not working, unless I'm doing it wrong.

I made sure in Settings that the "Double-Click Side Button" under Wallet & Apple Pay is enabled, so that's not it.

Is it the lock button, or is it one of the volume buttons (although I've tried those too)? Is it before or after Face ID recognizes you (or does that even matter)? Is it supposed to open immediately after I double-click, or do I need to swipe up after double clicking?

i had the same problem - double clicking just woke or slept the phone, until I added at least one credit card to the wallet on my phone. Now it works fine.

Thanks, it’s good to have a visual for how to do it. Unfortunately mine doesn’t work like that at all. Double-clicking the side button doesn’t do anything.

And like I said, I made sure the setting is enabled, so that’s not the problem. I even tried hard-resetting the phone, and still doesn’t work.
