iTunes not seeing iPhone via USB

Just encounter this problem. 2 iOS devices (iPad and iPhone), recently updated to iOS12.0.1.

Connect iPhone via USB to Macbook Pro, launch iTunes, iPhone not showing up. A dialog came up on the phone asking to trust the device, clicked 'ÝES', still not showing up. On the other hand, my iPad which is connected to WIFI, is showing up on iTunes. Swap the devices, now iPad connected via USB, iPhone via WIFI, and iTunes only see iPhone. Disconnect both from USB, only WIFI, both showing up on iTunes. Seems like iTunes can't read any of the devices via USB.

I have a 3rd iPhone, still running iOS 10. Connect to USB and it is showing up on iTunes. With this I can confirm it is not USB cable. Anyone else having this same problem?

iTunes - 12.8.0.150

iOS - 12.0.1

I can't get further update for the iTunes, unable to upgrade to Mojave.
