Hey Tom Meade1,

It sounds like you're trying to initiate a FaceTime Audio call but are unaware how. I like using FaceTime to stay connected with some of my friends and family and would like to help. The information in the article below can show you exactly how.
Use FaceTime with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Make a FaceTime call

To make a FaceTime call, you need the person's phone number or registered email address. There are a few ways to make a FaceTime call:

  • In the FaceTime app, tap User uploaded file and type the person's phone number or email address. Tap the number or address, then tap Audio User uploaded file or Video User uploaded file.
  • If you have the person's phone number or email address saved in your Contacts, you can begin typing their name and tap the name when it appears. Then tap Audio User uploaded file or Video User uploaded file.
Thanks for reaching out via Apple Support Communities.

Cheers.
