On my Mac after downloading Mojave our Mail program does not recognize one of our gmail accounts. We tried deleting the account and adding it again to no avail

After downloading Mojave one of our gmail accounts is no longer recognized. We tried deleting said account and adding it but it froze on the last window where it asks which apps use this account

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), iOS 12.0.1

See if you can add it back while booted into the Safe Mode.
