HomeKit doesn't know I'm home

We have a HomePod, AppleTV 4k, Logitech Circle 2 cameras, August Lock, Eve door sensors, and Phillips Hue lights. We both have iPhone 8+ and Watch Series 3, and everything is running the latest OS.

We have location services setup on both of our iPhone 8+ phones which are running iOS 12.0.1. We have Share My Location From This Device set to the phones. Privacy > Location Services > Home is While Using, and System Services has everything turned on. Maps knows where my home is located and so does the Home app. Location services are working well for notifications and functionality with Logitech and August.

HomeKit Notifications are set to Allow Notifications when nobody is home for the Doors & Locks and the Sensors.

Sometimes I leave home and come back and everything works as I'd expect. Other times, especially if one of us leaves and the other stays home, the HomeKit is not aware that someone is still here and the notifications go off for everything. This may even continue after the other comes back. Constant notifications. Did I mention I work from home?

How can I let HomeKit know I'm home? Is there some way to check the status in the Home app? I'm not sure what to reset to let it know I'm here. I've tried going to airplane mode and back, and just now I rebooted my phone but my husband came home while I was doing it.

Are others having this issue? I feel like it is happening more often lately, perhaps with the new OS? I'm not sure.

Also, is there a HomeKit community?

Hi there!

I have pretty much the same problem and similar setup. Sometimes it knows I’m home and sometimes not. This all started with ios12. Been trying to troubleshoot it since. What I’ve noticed is my personal contact in contacts. When all **** is breaking loose in notifications and I check my contact it no longer shows my home as home. No home icon appearing over my house. Like it forgets where I live. Tapping on my address will connect it to maps and can often work. Sometimes opening google maps does the trick. Must be something to force the maps and location to trigger. Not a solution but you might find it useful to help with troubleshooting.
