I have an email problem on Mac OS High Sierra.
Yahoo mail will not go online, error message showing permenantly.
Tried take all accounts online, tried Go/applications/Mail/Mailbox/Online status, the online status option is not showing in the menu.
Recently updated passwords on yahoo, all working OK on iPhone.
iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

Quit Mail.
Open Keychain Access in Applications>Utilities, then find the mail entry , double click on it & check the Password under that item. You likely have duplicates & Mail is using the old one.
If you delete both in/out entries then next time you use Mail it'll ask for the new password.

There should be t least 2 yahoos in Kechain Access, did you trash both?
Were you able to delete the keychains?
In sys prefs>iCloud did you uncheck mail?
Keychain always ask for your mac user password or your appleID password

Thank you for your response. Followed instructions and found the email. When you click on it has a box to tick show password. Then it asks for keychain access confidential stored in iCloud. Not sure which password this would be.
This is under the attributes tab.

Really grateful of your help, I’m not the most tech savvy person you will come across.
Out of frustration I have deleted all mail accounts. Yet in mail it is still showing “account error” in the top right hand corner of the second bar.
I have repeated all steps as per your instructions. I can log in via BT Yahoo mail, but not via the Mac mail system.

Update
I have successfully opened a new email account with Outlook which has loaded up and is working on Mac.
I have deleted all keychain entries for yahoo.
When I attempt to register the BT Yahoo email address it keeps giving me the error message. If I go in to mail/preferences/general
The Yahoo shows in the list as imap, enable account is ticked, but the status is showing offline with a red dot.
Question, when deleting keychain entries, is it just s double click on the entry then delete?

Hi Yes the key chains atecdeleted.
Still get the error message in mail and no mail.
As previously stated, all working ok on iPhone!
