Yes.

Put your finger on the screen in the main coversation view and pull down to reveal the search box. Type in the word you want to search for. Tap the button on the keyboard that says "Search".

Search Messages Searching messages never ever ever works. Never has. Why? I try finding something or someone's message in my texts, or I'm searching for certain information, but can't remember who texted it to me. I search and literally get no search results. It's very frustrating. I've toggled to Siri Suggestion on and off, which, I have no idea why I would even need to do that. If the bar is there it should work. I don't need a Siri suggestion, I just need to know where said thing is at in my messages. How can I fix my iphone so that the text message search works?

Yes.

how far back can you search for messages?

I imagine you can search all of the messages that are on your phone.
