Search Messages

Searching messages never ever ever works. Never has. Why? I try finding something or someone's message in my texts, or I'm searching for certain information, but can't remember who texted it to me. I search and literally get no search results. It's very frustrating. I've toggled to Siri Suggestion on and off, which, I have no idea why I would even need to do that. If the bar is there it should work. I don't need a Siri suggestion, I just need to know where said thing is at in my messages. How can I fix my iphone so that the text message search works?

Please double check something-

Go to Settings-->>Siri & Search-->> scroll down to Messages and ensure that Show in Search is Set to ON. Actually you can have all of those switches to ON in that section.

Hope this helps.

Are you attempting to search for text within the message itself? I just did a random search of messages for the word job, as I know that I had a couple of different conversations with some people about helping someone find a job. The search found 3 results, no problem. Have you just tried checking for a word or something that you know you have typed and searched? Are you searching in the Messages app itself?

No, I did not say the message itself, I said the Messages app. If you have the setting as you say, you should be getting responses if you are searching for something that does exist. If you are getting a prompt about messages indexing, then that is what the problem is. For some reason, you may have way too many messages that they are not indexing well, or you just finished updating the phone not too long back.

Oh I think your message confused me as you asked if Im searching “within the message itself”, then at the end asked if Im searching in the “messages app”. No this problem for me has been for years Ive just ignored it. Not a new issue since the last update. Years. I used to cleanup my messages regularly and delete a lot of old messages and keep my messages limited to whats on screen. So less messages, more messages its never worked.

I'm sorry, but I've never experienced this problem, and I am not always good about clearing mine. Did you try a test search for a word you have used? Go back to an old message, find a word in that message. Then close the message and try to search for that word and see what happens. If you are getting this indexing message again, you would seem to be having a problem with the phone indexing, and you may need to do something else. Of course, clearing un needed messages would help.
