Epson Perfection 850 Pro not working on 10.13.6 High Sierra: solution

Epson Perfection V850 Pro not working on 10.13.6 High Sierra? A solution

Check what error occurs. If it is an error -9923 (probably as it appears), the trouble is caused by kernel modules conflicting within High Sierra and you have to solve the conflict by disabling some elements. The way-around is the following with an Epson Perfection scanner V850 Pro.

First of all (that is to say before coping with the software trouble) connect your scanner (before that you can check that it appears as a USB device in Utilities/System Information), and go to System Preference/Printers & scanners. Click on the plus sign under the list of devices on the left side of the box. You must then see a new scanner named GT-X980. Add it, since it is the name under which the Epson Perfection V850 Pro is marketed within some territories.

Now, to treat the basic problem, go to the Apple menu/System Preferences and click Network (maybe you have to enter your Admin password to make changes), and choose Wi-Fi. Click Advanced and then TCP/IP. Click on the Configure IPv6 pop-up menu. Probably it is set to Automatic [or Automatically - sorry but my menus and dialog boxes are in French]. Set it to Manually. Exit the Network Preference dialog box and valid changes.

Return to System Preference/Printers & scanners and choose GT-X980, then do “Open the scanner". You arrive then on some spartan software, but it works (click on Display details, all the same, to see the possible adjustments).

If you are not happy with such software, you can buy a VueScan licence, and your Epson Perfection V850 Pro will be connected, while if IPv6 is not disabled, it won’t be.

As for the rest, remember that you changed your IPv6 adjustment should you experience some new trouble when connecting your usual networks, but normally, after you have disabled IPv6, IPv4 is still be available and ensures the connections you need.

Please try it as remedy, and tell the community if it works or if it has some drawbacks.

Or you could just skip all of this, and use the VueScan software that supports this scanner without any epson drivers. This software is way cheaper than replacing a scanner when the vendor tires of providing compatible macOS driver updates, or balks are the required 64-bit drivers for Fall 2019.

Disclaimer: I have owned VueScan sofware since 2012 without paying an upgrade fee. I do not receive any compensation, or other consideration for recommending this vendor's software.
