Hi,
looking to arm myself with a good machine to use while taking photographs in a studio environment to view and edit on the spot.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I would recommend that you review the recommended system requirements for each of the photo editing applications you need to use against the system specifications of each of the Apple notebook lines to see which meet, or better still, exceed them. This should narrow down the list significantly and help you decide on which best meets your needs and price point. Please take a look at the link below for the notebook system specifications to make it easier for you to make the comparisons.

You may also want to consider an iMac which might be better for that kind of work if you intend to do lots of it and edit on the fly (an i7 processor and lots of RAM plus a fast and large hard drive/SSD).
MacBook Pro computers are optimized for light weight and portability. System memory and internal drive components are soldered in place to meet the reliability demands of a portable computer, which are subject to tremendous forces just being moved about in an ordinary way. Only one high-end model features more than 16GB of RAM.
If you are not moving this computer out of the studio very often, or ever, you may do better with a computer optimized for different items -- such as improved graphics capability or larger RAM, such as an iMac or, if you have very demanding processing needs, an iMac Pro.
That would be the MacBook Pro, notice the "Pro" part of the name.
Putting Apple’s recent soldering fetish in the best possible light…
