Concerns over MacBook Security

I visited a website and it installed a version of Adobe Flash onto my Mac. It prompted me from my administrator password, but I didn't enter it. Am I safe from the adware? I ran several scans, deleted the files from Downloads, and found nothing. However, my Mac has shown bizarre software glitches recently. Im not sure if this is due to Mojave or potential adware.

The glitches include:

1) A momentary flash while the progress bar loads following boot up (apparently other users have the same issues)

2) Files not appearing instantly (they slide into screen)

3) Dock hanging for a few seconds after shutting down computer (occasionally doesn't do this)

I contacted Apple Support and was told the "Dock issue" is most likely a normal shut down sequence, but Im not sure if this is the case.

So, did you download it from the Adobe website? Or, what was the "a website"? You should only download/install from the actual Adobe site; everybody else cannot be trusted. Since you do not know what you downloaded, I'd be careful.

I would also get rid of whatever you used to "scan". The one that is recommended would be Malwarebytes for Mac. You can run that one. Or, you can erase your disk and reinstall from recovery - you'll get a clean factory fresh OS. Then be careful what files you copy over from the backup you made before doing all this.

A momentary flash while the progress bar is loading, files not appearing instantly, and the dock hanging a few seconds after clicking on Shut Down are all completely normal. You have nothing to worry about. The files not appearing instantly is just the storage drive needing some extra time to pull up the files and the momentary flash is something weird going on with 2016, 2017, and 2018 MacBook Pros. The Dock hanging around a few seconds after clicking on Shut Down is supposed to happen.

Hope this helps,

Richard
