iTunes not working on Yosemite

On my MacBook Pro I am getting a message when I plug my phone in to update on iTunes which reads "to use your iPhone with iTunes you need to install OSX 10.11.4 or later". Not sure why it's now not working when it always used to. I am running Yosemite 10.10.5 and I have no desire to update because my Adobe applications (CS5) will not work if I update (I discovered this the hard way and had to go through the process of downgrading back to Yosemite). Am I basically out of luck when it comes to using iTunes on Yosemite now?

iOS 12 requires iTunes 12.8 or better running on OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan or better, even though iTunes 12.8 can be installed on 10.10.5 Yosemite. I don't know why Apple have chosen this cut off, but they have. Workaround are to backup your device to iCloud, use iCloud Drive for data & document transfer, and iTunes Match or Apple Music for Music. You could also potentially switch to a dual boot system and run Yosemite in one partition and the latest build your Mac can run in another, disk space permitting.

Thanks for this reply!

With Apple Music or iTunes Match will I still be able to upload my cds into my iTunes library and then add those onto my phone? I have a large cd collection which I haven’t fully transferred onto my computer into iTunes. I often plug my phone into my computer to add music onto my phone from these cds that I’ve uploaded. Will I still be able to do this with these applications? Thanks for your help!

Thank you! I purchased iTunes Match and that’s exactly what I needed. One more question if you don’t mind me picking your brain:

I have two separate iTunes libraries in my computer - one is mine and the other my husbands. If I were to log out of my Apple ID and open his iTunes library and logged in with his Apple ID would I be able to set up a separate iTunes Match for him? I’ve read some conflicting things about doing this. Thanks again!!
