Ipod Nano 7th gen turns on by itself

I wanted to share my solution to this problem. It really worked! None of the Apple advice resolved the issue. Their final solution was to go to one of their Genius bars at an Apple store or a Best Buy for diagnostics. Before I did this (I also did everything suggested by Apple and all online help) I did one thing that seems to have fixed the problem.

I used some Industrial contact cleaner (electrical cleaner) on the tip of the power cord (that plugs into the Ipod), and also sprayed some into the Ipod power connector at the bottom of the unit. I did this when the unit was off. Used some compressed air to dry it, and a microfiber to clean the cord tip.

After cleaning, I recharged the battery, and now it does not randomly turn on.

My logic behind this solution is simple. The Ipod will turn on when the power cord is installed. Because the contacts must have been dirty, the Ipod randomly turned on (thought that a power cord was installed). Once cleaned, it was back to normal. We were tired of the battery always being drained because the Ipod randomly turned on.

I don't understand why Apple support hasn't advised customers to try this prior to going to a Genius bar!

Hope this works for you if your 7th gen Ipod Nano randomly turns on. Good luck.
