My iPhone SE Will Not Connect To iTunes

Hello,

My iPhone SE will not connect to iTunes when it used to in the past. It will charge when I plug it into my MacBook, but will not appear in devices in iTunes. This means that I cannot update music on my phone from CDs that I add to my library. The phone does connect to Photos and can update there.

I have plugged my into a different laptop, where my phone connected to iTunes perfectly fine (small phone symbol appeared, listed under devices). As I have troubleshooted everything else, I think there must be an issue with my laptop. I have updated my software on my phone and computer. I have checked iTunes is up to date. I have turned both devices off and on. I have reset all my setting on my iPhone, which did not work. I have checked that I am not running any third party security software and that my phone appear in System Report under USB. I have also checked all the hardware (charger cords, ports, etc.). None of this has worked.

iPhone: 1OS 12.0.1

MacBook Pro 2012: macOS High Sierra 10.13.6

iTunes: 12.8.0.150

Thanks!!!

iPhone SE, iOS 12.0.1

Hi there, you don't need to uninstall iTunes 12.8 first, but reinstalling using the following steps should help.

Download the current 12.8 installer for iTunes from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.

Unlock your iOS device and connect it to USB.

Reinstall iTunes from the .dmg that you've downloaded.

During the installation it should announce that a further software update is required.

Install that and iTunes should see your device.

Sorry about that, pkrossing, but reading your first question and the troubleshooting steps you already made...I'm clueless.

The weird thing is that you wrote that your MacBookPro is able to "see" your iPhone (it can connect to Photos)... so the problem could be in iTunes.

If you are in a great hurry, borrow one computer from your friends, and perform the songs transfer procedure form there.

If you can wait a little bit, I would try and contact a friend of mine (more tech savvy than me) and he might have a proper suggestion to offer you.

Hey Giulio, I think you may be right. I just checked a friend's phone plugged into my computer, and iTunes couldn't see hers either. I'm in no rush no add things, I just want to fix the problem for the future.

The only other troubleshooting step I can think of is uninstalling and then redownloading iTunes, but I think I'll do this as a last resort.
