p58-smtp.mail.me.com problems

I am using Mail v12.0 running on Mojave. I am having problems sending emails – not totally, sporadically. I keep getting an error saying that mail can not be sent using p58-smtp.mail.me.com. I can not edit the SMTP server list - there is nothing listed to edit and I can not add any SMTP servers.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Apple's System Status page currently says the following:

iCloud Mail - Resolved Issue

Yesterday, 3:30 PM - 7:37 PM

Some users were affected
Users may have been unable to send iCloud mail.

Despite this, I was still having problems sending, probably because I monkeyed with the outgoing server settings yesterday when it refused to send.

However, I figured out how to undo all that:

1. I pulled everything out of my Apple Mail client's Inbox and saved it On My Mac.

2. I went into my Apple Mail client preferences/accounts/ and made sure the iCloud email account was highlighted in the menu list on the left side of that preferences window, then, I selected the "Server Settings" tab and changed the pulldown menu for the outgoing server to "none."

3. Still in the Apple Mail client preferences window for the iCloud account, I selected the "Account Information" tab and removed the checkmark beside "enable this account."

4. I quit out of the Apple Mail client.

4. I opened System Preferences/iCloud intending to remove the checkmark beside "Mail" but found that it was already unchecked (because, in Step 3, I disabled the account in the Mail client preferences).

5. I rechecked the box beside "Mail" in System Preferences/iCloud, waited a moment, then closed out of System Preferences.

6. I reopened the Apple Mail client and was able to send email using my BLAH[at]mac[dot]com email account.

It's likely that some of those steps were unnecessary, but as I am not savvy enough to know which, I've listed everything I did here in the hope it might help others with the same problem.

We have been having this problem with p45-smtp.mail.me.com for several days. At first it didn't recognize my wife's alias address and wouldn't send out emails. We have had all these addresses for years and they are all listed in iCloud but it says "address is not one of yours". Now it won't send out our main address ot my alias either. The support status page shows no problem with iCloud mail but there is a problem. Hope someone can find a solution.

I should add that we are still using mac.com addresses but have never had a problem with them until now.

Same issue. I've not yet upgraded to Mojave. Still on Sierra 10.13.6. Zero problems prior to today, then started sporadically with one or two sent email here and there. Now, all outgoing is shut down altogether - and from ALL accounts I have set up in Apple's Mail app (my me.com account, Outlook, Gmail... all of them) - on both my iPhone as well as Mac. And like the others in this conversation, connection doctor says all is okay. Tried shutting down and re-booting, etc. HELP?!

I have the exact same problem. All of a sudden this morning my BLAH[at]mac.com emails just stopped sending. I can receive email from my Apple email accounts, but not send, using the Apple Mail client. My other domain emails, however, continue to send and receive just fine using the Apple Mail client. I performed no updates in the week prior to the occurrence of this problem, so I can't blame that. I have since performed the security update that was released today by Apple, but the Mail client still won't send.

The Mail Connection Doctor shows that the Mail client is attempting to connect to the outgoing SMTP server — smtp.mail.me.com — on Port 587, but ultimately, the Connection Doctor gives an error that says:

"Could not connect to this SMTP server. Check you network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account preferences. Also verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not, deselect the 'Use TLS/SSL' checkbox in the Server Settings tab of Account preferences."

Never mind that the most-recent version of the Mac OS X Mail client (version 11.5) on OS High Sierra doesn't even have a "Use TLS/SSL" checkbox in the server settings of account preferences for Apple email accounts.

Perhaps it's coincidental, but it's certainly curious that this problem occurred just as Apple rolled out OS Mojave, which isn't an option for my mid-2011 Mac desktop. Hoping an update will soon fix this, or that someone posts a solution here.
