How do I change calling voicemail to visual voicemail on iPhone xr

My iPhone XR is set to call voicemail which I don’t like. How do I set up visual voicemail at this point. No prompts are available to change this. Gone into settings voicemail and it only allows me to change a password it won’t bring up a different screen. I know my carrier supports this, because we were able to set up visual voicemail easily on another exact phone.
