Can't Send iCloud Email Using Apple Mail from MacBook Pro

In the last 24 hours I lost the ability to send mail with my iCloud account from my Mac using the Apple Mail app. I'm still receiving mail just fine. When the mail fails to send, I get the following message:

"The sender address [my Apple email] was rejected by the server [lists SMTP server info]. The server response was: Authentication required prior to MAIL/SAML/SEND/SOML".

The connection doctor shows/confirms I'm logged in to the iCloud SMTP server. I've restarted the computer, and logged out of and back into my iCloud account and still can't send mail.

I'm on a MacBook Pro (mid 2012) running macOS Mojave (10.14).

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

Assuming you resolved this, but I have been dealing with this problem the past several days and nothing I tried worked. Ended up removing my iCloud account from the computer altogether (System Preferences>Internet Accounts, selected iCloud and hit the "-" sign). I then simply added the same account and everything is fine.
