Highest resolution of a late 2012 Mac mini?

I've been told the following:

The Mac Mini's HDMI output port only supports up to 1920x1200

The Mac Mini's Thunderbolt/MiniDisplay Port output supports up to 2560x1600

However, for default display resolution is shown as 1080p as the default. And, even if I option-click on "Scaled" the above resolution is not possible (1920x1200 OR even 2560x1600) - the highest there is 1600x2000. This is using the supplied HDMI cable that came with my monitor (ViewSonic) as well as using the Thunderbolt/mini display port with a regular Displayport at the other end.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Darren
