How do I restore contacts from iCloud?

I read that iPhone contacts are automatically saved to iCloud. If that is true, how do I restore them to a new phone - both the old and new phones are 6s.

iPhone 6s, iOS 12.1

Hello, BSquad1957!

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities, it's great to have you here. iCloud is definitely a great way to keep your contacts synced across all your devices; I'm happy to provide some information.

I would recommend checking out the article titled Keep your contacts up to date on all of your devices with iCloud which has some general info on iCloud Contacts including how you can set that up. If you had been using iCloud Contacts previously, all you'll need to do is sign in to your iCloud account. To do that, you can follow the steps here: Sign in with your Apple ID

Specifically, from that article:

Sign in on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Before you begin, update your device to the latest iOS.

When you use iOS 10.3 or later, you sign in to iCloud, the iTunes & App Store, iMessage, FaceTime, and your other Apple services in one place.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Sign in to your [device].
  3. Enter your Apple ID and password.
  4. If you protect your account with two-factor authentication, enter the six-digit verification code and complete sign in.

I hope that this information is helpful.

Have a great day!
