In Image Capture (with Mojave), what's error -9956?

I'm trying to import some movies from my iPhone, and for files above roughly 100MB, I get this (on a reasonably new Mac with plenty of memory and diskspace, connected to an iPhone X with plenty GB of free space:

The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.ImageCaptureCore error -9956.) (-9956).

An error occurred while importing. 6 items were not imported:

IMG_7200.MOV

IMG_7543.MOV

IMG_7334.MOV

IMG_7512.MOV

IMG_7365.MOV

…

I can't find documentation for what this error is. Please advise.

Be sure that your iPhone is updated to iOS 12.1.1 and that your Mac is updated to macOS 10.14.2 then try again. Also, try the import in Photos and see if you get the same error. Also, you can try the import in Safe mode as per

Then also be sure to test the issue in another user account as per

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT20443

If the issue also persists in the other user account, then you should reinstall macOS as per

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904

Otherwise if still unresolved then you should contact Apple Support.

I get the same error, except I get it when trying to import a specific image from my iPhone in Photos.

I'm getting this error on a random photo while trying to transfer a batch of pictures and media over too. It's a heic live photo for me

I have the same problem. For me it happens with time lapse movies, and after getting the error message Image Capture won't import anything until I restart my phone.
