Arrange icons on desktop myself! (overlapping)

Hi,

so I just installed Mojave on my MBA 2017.

If I enable "stacks" all icons are organized in the right top of the desktop.

The feature itself works fine, but is there any way of re-arranging the position of the stacks; please?

If I disable "stacks" I STILL don`t have full control over my icons.

That goes for the desktop and for any folder that I go into, BTW.

I like to position certain pics on top of other pics, for instance.....but icons stay at a certain distance away from each other.

So here`s question 2: is there any way to make the positioning fully "manual" like I got used to over the last 10 years?

Cheers,

Hi Old Toad,

thanks for the settings you posted.

I have exactly the same though.......and I can`t move my icons and files freely around the desktop....they are constantly being kept to the right top of my screen....and then downwards, obviously.

But all on the right.

Why can`t I put an important folder in the left top of my desktop?

Unlike a Windows machine—Mac's default placement is the upper right corner and down.

This is not to say you can not manually move them around.

If a SafeBoot shows no difference nor resolve, it could be a corrupt plist. You can

test issue in another user (or guest user) account https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204443

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

You can delete the com.apple.desktop.plist and reboot to rebuild a default desktop

From Finder>Go>Go to Folder> copy and paste:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
