GarageBand and PreSonus AudioBox Usb

I'm trying to do some recording however my Audiobox USB is no longer being recognized by GarageBand (v.10.3.1). I have the latest GarageBand and have the latest driver (2.9.2.49805), according to the universal control. When I unplug the USB cable from the Audiobox USB and reconnect, it recognizes the MIDI Audio device in GarageBand, but within seconds, it is removed automatically. I don't know what is going on.

Is this related to the latest OS? Do I sound desperate? Any help is greatly appreciated!

In GB I have the input as audiobox usb, but won’t pick up sound when I play.

If I go to System Preferences/Sound/Input, and select the Interface (AudioBox USB), it is not picking up any sound. But if I select Internal Microphone (Built-in), it picks up sound.

i'm not sure what else to suggest.

the cabling and settings appear correct, GB has permission to use the interface, i don't know what's left to test.
