eBay selling with Safari

I cannot sell on eBay. Support at eBay never told me there is a problem with Safari. Have not seen any postings on this subject since mid December. Has any solution been found? Or do I need to install Firefox?

If I do install Firefox, what happens to all Safari files, bookmarks, addresses, etc.,? Thanks for any help.

Hi jbg2 ,

You would be better served using Firefox to work with ebay, the features for sellers do not work as they should on ebay using Safari.

There is a link to firefox in this topic, including an ebay response to one Safari user, albeit they write different things to different folks.

Lots on ebay & Safari [ last 90 days] as this search link shows.

Buying with Safari is not impossible, they would be foolish to limit the buyers
: ) , the issue is for sellers using Safari.

At the least if you try using Safari w/ ebay, using 2.0.4 would be best, I presume you are running an earlier version your specs show 10.4.1.

Good Luck,

Hi there Widge!

Do you know if ebay supports the Camino browser? I shall check it out, ebay access for selling is not a concern of mine, but as you see it is for MJ & jbg2 in this thread topic.

Many thanks; )

MJ, I read this post where one seller uses Appleworks to create his listing for Ebay,

QUOTE from Alan Bishop2 in this topic thread Ebay on safari Posted: Feb 23, 2007 5:24 PM

I use Safari to list on ebay and have not had any problems. Has your Safari been updated to its latest version ( I am on 1.3.2 ). I write all my descriptions with Appleworks 6 and save them with the html option and copy and paste them into ebay.

Of course you may have to purchase Appleworks I know it did not come bundled with my intel mac/macbookpro or powerbook, but did on my Flat panel [see my avatar] it may be an option for you.

Good luck & keep us posted!

Cheers to you both.

I too have the same problem. When I get to "list your item", when I click on that button it just greys out - and it doesn't go to eBay. Yes I can upload photos ok, as you can.

I DID list 2 items and sell them, successfully - BEFORE installing the following today:

1. Java release 5
2. Security Update 2007-02 (PowerPc)
3. Security Update 2007-001
4. Daylight Saving Time Update

But I don't find any info on how to inunstall these 'updates' and get running again...

I urgently need to list something on eBay right this moment! If anyone can help us it would be highly appreciated!

thanks Ernie. I also found a solution on
Re: Ebay page problems

posted by DoublyaBee on Jan 5, 07

where he mentions a workaround given by an eBay customer support rep. Just use the original (old) "sell your item" form.

That works for me as I don't care about all the other features. in the meantime I'll consider using Firefox. thanks again

Hi Eme
many thanx again. presently i downloaded and installed Firefox - it doesn't feel nearly as responsive as Safari and it's very pc-ish in appearance - not a favourite of mine! I shall probably use it for selling on eBay and do everything else as usual on Safari.

Which is a bit of a pain but then again that's life...

Hello Mj-
You are most welcome. There are some other sites that may also work better on Firefox, for instance the Gap is known to crash Safari.
I agree FireFox does feel & act very other-ish'~) as you say that's life, perhaps as Apple user base increases, Ebay will support our browser, then again they did once, fickle ebay thinks I.

Kind Regards,

Hi-: ) I just re-read this portion of your post...sorry to have missed it.

If I do install Firefox, what happens to all Safari files, bookmarks, addresses, etc.,? Thanks for any help.

You can leave all files in Safari as they are.
You can use Firefox to sell/list in Ebay, only if you so choose to.
You do not need to pick FF to be the default browser [see Firefox preferences, under the firefox menu, to set them as you like.
Imo, Safari is a much nicer feeling browser, I would use it only for site[s] that seem to require it.

Good luck & please let us know how you fare.

Hi jbg2,

Have you tried what I suggested in another post to another question on this subject of Safari and ebay and list using the old ( original ) listing form on ebay. It gives you the choice at the beginning between the old and the new. I have just finished some listings and it is all working fine. No problems at all.

Alan

Hi, I've just been trying to list some items on Ebay and have had exactly the same problem! Can't get past the last button to list and it grays out. But I've been selling OK since the middle of January with no problems and listed and sold about 30 items. Until I did the last "security update+" on the 15 Feb. every thing was running smoothly. Now I can't list anything but can still do everything else. My daughter tried to list an item on Ebay in her name on my iMac and she has been a Ebay member for 3 years and it went on perfectly with and older listing page. So what's going on??

Hi, this has been answered before, it's not the security update etc. I'm copying and pasting a previous post by DoublyaBee on Jan 5, 07 in another thread. Copy of DoublyaBee's post follows:

I emailed Ebay support about this yesterday and it was solved for me today. Everything is working just fine now. Here's their mail to me:

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us. My name is Samson, and I appreciate the
opportunity to assist you with your questions.

I understand you're having difficulty listing your items. Upon review, I
noticed that you're listing your items with the new selling form. I
would suggest listing your items with the original sell your item form
instead.

To make the switch, please follow the steps below:

1. Click on the 'Sell' tab located on top of the page.

2. On this page, you'll see the link 'List using the original Sell Your
Item form'. Once clicked, you'll be able to list using the old form
which should allow you to successfully list your item.

Thank you for being part of the eBay community, and have a great day.

Do this and she won't have any problem.

Hi everyone,

This is just an update on my previous reply to this question.

I have always used the old listing page as I said before in a reply and had no problems using Safari. Ebay have just announced that they plan to stop the use of the old listing page some time in May.

As an experiment I tried a listing with the NEW page and Safari and it worked fine so perhaps the problems have been solved by ebay.

I am doing some more listing today and will report back if the problems return.

Regards from England,

Alan

Another update.

I did 7 more listings today and they all went fine. When I clicked on List item it took about 8 seconds before the congratulations your item has been listed page came up.

Hopefully the new listing page is working OK with Safari.

Alan
