Images in Pages Document Printing Vertical Lines

When I print a pages document with multiple photo images they print out with vertical lines. If I print the same image not within the pages document, they print out fine. I have uninstalled and reinstalled my printers, I have cleaned the printer heads, & have downloaded the latest drivers, I have exported the pages document to .pdf and the images/file still prints vertical lines all throughout the document and images. I have Pages version 7.2, Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.6. My printers are Epson R260 and Epson Artisan 1430. This all just started several weeks ago, I have never had a problem with these files before October 2018.

Hi there, Dodie2u!
Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you are having an issue when printing from Pages on your Mac and I’m happy to help out! I recommend starting by taking a look at this article with steps to follow to Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac. This will perform checks and stop certain software from starting up automatically. Once you are in safe mode, test to see if you have the same issue.
Also, check out this article with steps for How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac to create a new user and test the issue in the new account to see if the issue is user specific or system wide.
Let me know the results and take care!

Thank you (I accidentally clicked the solved button and when I tried to change it I couldn't). So, that said, I decided to go up to my old 2003 mac mini with old word for Mac software and recreate the document in question from scratch with the same image I've been having problems with, and low and behold every image printed just fine. So, I'm going to have to say that since I can't upgrade my MacBook Pro (2007) any farther, I'm going to have to revert to using my mac mini until Apple can remember that there are other people in this world that aren't Millennial's and bring back the MacBook Pro 17" with CD/DVD drive. Thanks for letting this middle aged woman rant, and now I can say that the issue is "SOLVED" (kind of). 🙂

It would help if we could see examples. My feeling is that it is a resolution issue as it does not appear in the pdf.

Ideally you should have 300 dpi (120 lpcm) at the scale in the document to print to either laserprinter or commercial print. Both excessively high resolution and low resolution can cause scaling errors.

If you test single images and they print fine, but multiple images on the same page print with the lines, this suggests your printer or whatever is doing the RIP is using a PostScript clone and also too little RAM to render accurately.

The other thing is that what you are describing as lines is actually banding where the tones step across a gradient instead of smooothly graduating. That is due to inadequate resolution on your printer which can be fixed in the images by adding noise to disrupt the tone graduation.

Do you by any chance have toner/ink saver set in your Print dialog?

btw Why did you mark Sarah's response as "Solved" when it did not solve your problem?
