Handoff not working

I have a new iPhone Xs Max and I have the handoff feature turned on but it is not working. I can not get it to handoff to my MacBook Pro. I've tried everything that I can think of. Can anybody help me?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS High Sierra (10.13.6)
